Centennial Conference Launches Centennial Votes Initiative

Centennial Conference Launches Centennial Votes Initiative

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Centennial Conference has announced the Centennial Votes pledge, an initiative that will encourage 100% voter participation among eligible student-athletes, coaches, and staff ahead of the General Election on November 3.

The Centennial Votes pledge has support across all 11 Centennial Conference member institutions and encourages student-athletes to take part in the electoral process and learn more about the importance of voting rights. “Many of our institutions strive to be at the forefront of various social justice issues,” said Centennial Conference Executive Director Portia Hoeg. “It is with great pride that we pledge to have 100٪ of our Centennial Conference teams, coaches, and administrators register to vote.”

The initiative seeks to inform and increase civic engagement and share non-partisan voter registration resources via social media. Using the hashtags #CentennialVotes and #d3votes on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, participants are able to follow and add to the conversation surrounding the Centennial Votes pledge.

The conference will share information on the electoral process and help student-athletes to stay informed through weekly voter information. The pledge also encourages student-athletes to engage in civil discourse before and after the Nov. 3 Election Day. “Perhaps most important to our pledge, we are committed to civility while engaging in the democratic process,” said Hoeg. “In the same manner, by which we expect good sportsmanship and respect from our membership, civic discourse is also an important value.”
