Hopkins Falls to Swarthmore in Centennial Conference Final

The Blue Jays will find out their NCAA placement on Monday

The Basics
• Score: #4 Johns Hopkins – 1, #22 Swarthmore - 5
• Records: JHU (17-2) • Swarthmore (15-2-2)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: For the second straight year, the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team fell to Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Tournament Final as the Garnet claimed the team's second title with a 5-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
• The Garnet opened up the scoring just three minutes into the game as Amy Harris sent the ball to Lizzie King on the left side of the field and King made a nice move to get past her defender for the score.
• Marin McCoy gave Swarthmore a 2-0 lead at 31:05 as she took a Melissa Curran cross from the left side and tucked the ball into the left post.
• The Garnet had a chance to make the score 3-0, however Cristina Madalo came up with a key defensive save to keep the ball out of the net. A scramble for the loose ball ensued, but the JHU defense held strong and eventually cleared the ball out of its end.
• Swarthmore tacked on three more goals in the second half to take a 5-0 lead. Sophia Stills, Brittany Weiderhold and Sydney Covitz had the goals for the Garnet.
• Hopkins got on the scoreboard at 74:32 as Insa Mannstadt sent a pass to Jesse Cole who put the ball under the keeper into the left corner of the net.
• The Garnet held on and won the game 5-1 to claim the Centennial Conference Tournament Championship for the second straight season.

What it Means
• This was the first loss for the Blue Jays since September 5 as Hopkins had won its previous 15 matches.
• The five goals are the most JHU has allowed in a tournament game and the most Johns Hopkins has given up since 2015 when Messiah scored five goals in the September 9th meeting.
• This marks the first time the Blue Jays have lost back-to-back finals matches as JHU is now 10-4-2 in championship matches.

Inside the Box Score
• Cole notched her first goal of the season while Mannstadt notched her second assist on the season.
Robyn Lipschultz made four saves in goal while Amy Shmoys made five for the Garnet
