Golf Opens Play at The Melee, Lee and Zhang Sit Inside Top-Five

EASTON, Pa. - The Swarthmore College golf team finished the opening round tied for second place at The Melee on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet shot 297 as a team to finish one-stroke off the leader.

Ben Lee paced the Garnet in the opening round as he shot one-over, while Dylan Zhang was two-over for the afternoon. Both Lee and Zhang sit inside the top-five heading into tomorrow's action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lee shot a 72 (+1) on the afternoon to place fourth overall. The junior carded three birdies, while shooting two-under on the back nine. The effort marked his lowest round of the season.

- Zhang tied for fifth overall with a 73 (+2) to open tournament play. The freshman carded three birdies on the front nine to shoot even for the first nine holes. Zhang then recorded a pair of bogeys on the back nine to finish two-over for the round. The freshman shot one stroke under his previous low round of the season.

- Neil Zhu had his best round of the season as he opened the tournament with a 74 (+3) to tie for ninth overall. The freshman carded a birdie on the second and 18th holes, respectively.

- Chad Kemmerer shot a 77 (+6) as an individual participant. He carded two birdies on the afternoon and sits in 18th place.

- Jackson Murphy rounded out the Garnet scorers as he tied for 22nd overall with a 78 (+7) for the opening round. Andy Xin also competed for the Garnet as he carded an 84 (+13) on the day.
