ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's golf team closed the fall portion of its season schedule with a ninth-place finish at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic held at The Bridges Golf Club on Sunday.
After carding a 302 and tying for fourth on Saturday, the Bullets dropped five spots with a 313 in the final round. St. John Fisher College took the team title with a total score of 598 (304-294), two strokes better than Christopher Newport University (302-298) and McDaniel College (301-299).
Sophomore
Jimmy Harcourt (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) and senior
Dane Sethre-Hofstad (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) paced Gettysburg by each recording a total score of 152 to finish in a tie for 18th. Harcourt tied his collegiate low with a 76 for the second consecutive day. He posted 13 pars and birdied the par-4, 410-yard No. 6 hole. Sethre-Hofstad birdied the 15th for the second day in a row and posted a dozen pars on his way to a 77 on Sunday.
After shooting a 73 in the opening round, senior
Danny Harcourt (Fanwood, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) carded an 80 in round two to finish tied for 21st at 153. The elder Harcourt logged a pair of birdies on Sunday on No. 11 and No. 14 and finished with four birdies in the tournament.
Sophomore
Daniel Rieger (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was one-over par on the front half of the course thanks to a pair of birdies on the third and eighth holes and finished with an 80 on Sunday. His two-day score of 158 put him in a tie for 47th.
Freshman
Hayden Moffat (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) matched his score from the opening day with an 83 to finish tied for 76th. Moffat tallied his first birdie of the tournament on the par-4, 350-yard 12th hole.
Gettysburg finished the first half of its season schedule sporting a team scoring average of 299.6 – nearly 12 strokes better than its average from last season.
Danny Harcourt paced the team with an average of 72.5 strokes per round this fall.
The Bullets resume their season schedule in March.
