GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The 23rd-ranked Gettysburg College women's basketball team grabbed a season-high 58 rebounds and four players reached double-figures as the Bullets moved closer to clinching the top seed for the Centennial Conference playoffs with a 74-46 win over McDaniel College Thursday night inside Bream Gym.
 
Gettysburg (19-3, 16-1 CC) remained a game in front of Johns Hopkins University (19-3, 15-2 CC) for the top seed in the postseason with three games left in the regular season. The Bullets out-rebounded McDaniel (12-11, 7-11 CC) by 34 and nearly had as many offensive boards (19) as the Green Terror's combined rebounding total (24) for the whole game.
 
Junior Ashley Gehrin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored 14 of her game-high 15 points in the opening half. Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) finished with 13 points and eight boards, while senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) picked up a dozen tallies and nine caroms. Freshman Seanna McNamara (Berwyn, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) came off the bench for 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
Liv Storer led McDaniel with 14 points, while Hannah Zajac and Sara Pilkey each turned in eight points. Jamese Word dished out four assists and picked up six steals.
 
The Bullets never trailed in the contest, jumping out with the game's first five points and taking a 20-10 lead on a transition three-pointer by Dorshimer with 52 seconds left in the first quarter. Gettysburg was even more efficient in the second period, knocking down half of its field goals and committing just three turnovers as the lead steadily grew. Gehrin accounted for three lay-ups during a 10-2 spurt that pushed the advantage to 40-20 with two minutes left in the half and the Bullets took a 42-24 lead into the locker room.  
 
Gettysburg managed just four points in the opening five minutes of the third quarter, but the domination on the glass continued and helped prevent McDaniel from getting no closer than 15 points. The Bullets also knifed through the Green Terror press with Brown converting three fast-break buckets to help the team head to the final frame with a 55-35 advantage.
 
With the lead well in hand, the Gettysburg reserves took the spotlight in the final quarter and ended the game on a 14-5 run.
 
Gettysburg countered a season-high 25 turnovers by shooting 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the floor and dishing out 23 assists. McDaniel finished 21-of-68 (30.9 percent) from the field and hit just 2-of-23 three-point tries. The Bullets out-scored the Green Terror 26-5 in second-chance points and 22-0 in fast-break points.
 
The Bullets host Washington College (7-14, 4-12 CC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Gettysburg will honor its two seniors, Dorshimer and Teal Tasker (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy).
