COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Track & Field team opened its 2022-23 Indoor season by hosting the Bow Tie Invitational at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on Friday night.
With team points being awarded in the meet this season, the Bears paced a 12-team field in the standings with 103 points.
Senior
Isaiah Battle highlighted the meet by setting a new school and Centennial Conference record in the weight throw with his mark of 57-4 ft. He topped his own school record of 54-5.5 ft. set last season and a Centennial Conference record of 56-8 ft. that was set in 2010 by Anthony Abbate of Dickinson. Battle placed first in the event, and it was the second-straight Bow Tie Invitational that he topped the weight throw school record. Battle also led the Bears in the shot put with a seventh-place finish behind his throw of 46-2.25 ft.
Senior
Tim Holzapfel impressed in the weight throw as well with a third-place finish behind his career best throw of 52-2 ft.
Four Bears finished second through fifth in the 200 meter dash, led by senior
Daniel Tabor on his time of 23.10. He was followed by junior
Collin Ney in third (23.36), freshman
Aiden Tobin (23.55) in fourth, and sophomore
Mason Jolivette (23.59) in fifth.
Freshman
Markel Roberts-Jackson led four Bears in the high jump with a third place finish after clearing the bar at 5-10.75 ft. Sophomore
Ethan Chambers and junior
Michael Agbeye tied for fifth with their marks of 5-9 ft. Freshman
Cole Jackson paced Ursinus in the long jump on his mark of 19-8.25 ft.
Sophomore
Ken Komatsu finished third in his Ursinus debut in the pole vault on his mark of 12-11.5 ft. while classmate
Evan Mitchell tied for fifth after clearing the bar at 11-11.75 ft.
A pair of freshman competed in the 60-meter hurdles as
Patrick Ryan finished fourth on his time of 9.69 and
Ethan Staurowsky placed sixth with a time of 10.62.
In distance, junior
Tucker McGrath finished second in the mile on his career best time of 4:29.21 while freshman
Liam Johnston placed fourth in his track collegiate debut on his mark of 4:32.45.
The two Bears 4x400 relay teams that competed on the evening finished 1-2 in the event as the Ursinus "B" group of Ney, Tobin, Chambers, and senior
Payton Stanziani won the race with their time of 3:29.69. The "A" group of Jolivette, sophomore
Devon Greaves, junior
Dolan Cox, and Tabor finished second behind their time of 3:32.32.
The Bears have a month off before returning to action on Saturday, January 21st by hosting the Collegeville Classic at 9:00 a.m.
