Blue Jays best Bullets in four, Kreider ties program record for wins

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Mackenzie Garner and Janae Moran combined for 23 kills and Steph High collected her third double-double of the season as Elizabethtown made a winner of head coach Randall Kreider for a program record-tying 260th time, 3-1, at Gettysburg Wednesday evening.

Kreider joins Bill Helm atop the program's all-time wins list. Helm coached the team for four seasons from 1984-87 and held the position again for seven seasons from 1994-2000. Kreider, now in his 14th season, and Helm are the only two coaches in Blue Jay history to have been on the sideline for more than 10 seasons. Kreider has presided over nine winning seasons and Elizabethtown's only conference championship, which came in 2007.

Elizabethtown (11-7) started quickly against the Bullets, scoring nine of the first 10 points in a 25-19 first-set win. Three kills from Garner and another two from classmate Janae Moran helped push the Blue Jays in front. Moran and Juliana Mowen recorded aces in the opening run as well.

Before the set was through, Gettysburg worked back to within a pair at 20-18, but Moran answered with a kill, Victoria Leidy added two and the Garner/Moran combo stuffed the Bullets' Laura Bergin's attack to finish the set on a high note.

A pair of Garner kills and Chelsea Gallagher's ace from the service line helped E-town take command of another tight set in the second. Leading 18-16, the Blue and Gray used a 4-1 run to go in front by five and eventually closed out the set 25-22.

Gettysburg (8-8) would take the third set 25-12, as mistakes marred E-town's effort. It was just a hiccup, however, as the visitors were able to get 11 kills and four aces in the fourth to hold off the Bullets 25-22 and win the match. Megan McNaul led all Blue Jays with four kills in the set, while also registering eight digs. Morgan Reiss and Moran had two aces apiece.

Garner reached double digits in kills for the eighth time this season, as she went for a match-high 12. Moran had 11, Leidy seven and McNaul six. Moran also had five of Elizabethtown's nine aces on the night.

High provided the set on 34 of her team's 46 kills, while going for 10 digs and four kills. McNaul's 18 digs were tops for the Jays and Shannon Deck had 15.

Kreider can become the winningest coach in program history Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Scranton for a Landmark Conference weekend. They'll face Merchant Marine at 1:30 p.m., followed by the host Royals at 6:30.
