Golf Wraps Up Play at The Gauntlet, Trio Leads Garnet

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's golf team tied for 12th overall as they finished their season opener on a high note at The Gauntlet on Monday morning. The team finished with a score of 296 to improve their opening round total by 13 strokes.

Andy Xin had an excellent second round as he shot one-under to lead the team on the day, while Ben Lee, Chad Kemmerer and Alex Cheriel tied for the Garnet's lowest two-round score.

Kemmerer also shot a career-low in both rounds of the tournament, while destroying his previous career-low, two-round score by 16 strokes. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lee, Kemmerer and Cheriel all tied for 35th overall for the tournament. Lee showed the biggest improvement of the trio, shooting a 74 (+2) for the round to take three strokes off his opening score. Cheriel also improved on his opening round with a 75 (+3), while Kemmerer carded a 77 (+5) for the day after pacing the Garnet through the first 18 holes. 

- Xin shot an excellent second round as he took 11 strokes off his opening effort. The freshman shot nine-over for the tournament, while carding a two-round score of 153. He tied for 49th overall for the tournament. 

- Gyan Bains also made significant strides on day two of the tournament. The senior took six strokes off his opening round effort with a 76 (+4).
