Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Garnet Rally But Can't Hold Off Red Devils

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse erased an early five-goal deficit, but couldn't hold off the Dickinson College Red Devils down the stretch. Swarthmore fell 15-9 to the Red Devils and took a loss for just the third time this season. Both Swarthmore and Dickinson are 2-3 in Centennial Conference play this year.

Elizabeth Wainwright and Sophie Peipher each tallied a pair of goals. Andie Battin, Sydnie Schwarz, Julia Ostrowski, Kathryn Restrepo and Mackenzie Frost all netted a goal as well. Wainwright, Restrepo and Schwarz added an assist.

On the draw, Tess Wild led the way with five draw controls, a game high.

In goal, Betsy Cohen registered seven saves.

The Garnet started off on the wrong foot, conceding five Dickinson goals in the first 11 minutes.

Frost put Swarthmore on the board nearly halfway through the first half on a free-position shot. Wainwright followed with another goal from the fan with 12:58 to go to cut into the lead some more.

Peipher sliced through a pair of defenders at the 6:38 mark en route to a goal  and then scored again on a bounce shot with 1:03 left in the half.

Wainwright stuck her second goal of the game two minutes into the second half for the equalizer, and then Ostrowski put Swarthmore ahead 6-5 with 25:16 remaining.

Dickinson then strung together three goals, but Swarthmore responded with two to keep pace.

However, down the stretch, the Red Devils out-lasted the Garnet and scored seven goals in the final 13 minutes.

Swarthmore wrapped up a tough three-game week with two wins and now gets ready to play Muhlenberg on the road on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
