CARLISLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) picked up a pair of individual victories and Gettysburg College won seven of the first nine events on the way to a 116-84 victory over Dickinson College in Centennial Conference men's swimming action Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (7-1, 4-1 CC) wasted no time in grabbing the lead against Dickinson (7-4, 2-3 CC) with a victory in the first race of the night. Freshman
Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) overcame a 0.18 second deficit in his 50-free leg of the 200 medley relay to help the Bullets beat out Dickinson by six-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:39.73. Junior
Jeff Ragatz (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield), sophomore
Oliver Yancey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), and senior
Francisco Nieves (Alexandria, Va./Edison) swam the opening three legs of the race.
The Orange and Blue claimed the top spot in each of the next three races. Freshman
Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) cracked the program's all-time top 10 with a victory in the 1,000 free. Pickering's time of 10:02.49 moved him into sixth in school history.
Collins picked up the first of his two victories in the 200 free, edging out classmate
Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior) by 0.37 seconds with a time of 1:46.04. Collins beat another teammate, senior
Jake Hegna (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) for the top spot in the 100 back with a time of 55.87 later in the meet.
Nonemaker led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.77. He was followed by Yancey and senior
Parker Sorenson (Evergreen, Colo./Homeschooled) with times of 22.06 and 22.66, respectively.
Another 1-2-3 finish was produced by the Bullets in the 100 free. Nieves led the charge with a time of 48.42 and Yancey was second in 48.70. Sophomore
Brian Berry (Canton, Conn./Canton) finished third in 49.48.
Gettysburg's final victory came in the 500 free where freshman
CJ Hewitt (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) kept the team's unbeaten streak intact with a time of 4:58.83. The Bullets have claimed the top spot in the 500 free in all eight events this season.
Following a mixed men's and women's 400 IM race featuring all Bullets, Gettysburg swam the final two races as exhibitions. Collins, Sorenson, Nieves, and Nonemaker closed the meet with the top time in the 200 free relay (1:28.59).
Gettysburg caps its dual schedule at Franklin & Marshall College Saturday at 1 p.m.
