On a night when a snow shower blanketed the field in white, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team threw a blanket over the Drew offense.
The Mules defeated the Rangers, 8-4, to improve their all-time best season start to 6-0. The team is just two away from tying the school record for longest winning streak.
Drew (1-4) scored on its first possession, less than two minutes into the game, and did not find the back of the net again until late in the fourth quarter - a span of more than 52 minutes. The defense prevented the Rangers from getting off many shots - just 13 in the first three quarters and 24 in the game - but when they did fire away, sophomore
Garrett Pope was there. He stopped 11 shots, reaching double figures for the fourth time in six games.
Muhlenberg bounced back from Drew's early goal by netting the next eight, with freshman
Ethan Grossman scoring three times for his second hat trick. Grossman's second goal, assisted by sophomore
Bobby McLoughlin, kicked off a spurt in which the Mules scored four goals in a span of 3:16 to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Freshman
Cole Draghi notched his first career point by assisting on the fifth goal, scored by sophomore
Scott Fayan.
The pace slowed down as worsening field conditions made the footing difficult in the second half.
Sophomore
Frankie Feaster went 9-for-14 on faceoffs and picked up a team-high five ground balls. Senior
Dylan Moyer, sophomore
Frank Caterina and freshman
Christopher Hyde caused two turnovers apiece, and another longstick, freshman
Michael Fodi, scooped up four ground balls.
