Big Third Quarter Lifts Men's Lax In Texas

GEORGETOWN, Texas—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse improved to 5-0 with a win on spring break against the Southwestern University Pirates.

The Garnet held a one-goal advantage after the first half but broke the game open with a big third quarter, leading to a 17-13 win.

Ryan Mulvey and Mason Evarts led Swarthmore with hat tricks.

In addition to winning 14 faceoffs FOGO Ryan Izquierdo netted two goals on his own. Austin Chang tallied a pair of goals.

Dylan Rittenhouse, Andrew Estella, Jake Ross, Tommy Ferguson, Will Vespole, Zander Levitz and Kieran McKenna all scored as well.

Tied 4-4 in the second quarter after a Southwestern goal, Swarthmore took the advantage back by winning the resulting faceoff and scoring on a shot by Izquierdo with 10:05 left in the period.

Southwestern responded to tie the game at 5-5, but Swarthmore then scored the next three goals to get some padding.

Mulvey scored two of his three goals in the second half and Evarts netted all three of his in the second frame. Swarthmore scored four straight times to close out the third quarter and take a comfortable 13-7 lead.

Frankie Dillon earned the win between the pipes again, recording eight saves in 60 minutes.

Swarthmore now returns home on Saturday to face the Drew University Rangers. Swarthmore is looking to start the season off 6-0 for the first time since 2000.
