CHESTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Women's Basketball junior guard
Elizabeth Stiles became the first Garnet player to score 20 points in a game this season, but the team lost 76-61 at Widener University on Tuesday night.
Stiles had only scored in double figures five times in her career before she broke out for a career-high 20 on Tuesday. Now averaging a team-high 8.5 points in 2018-19, Stiles didn't miss any of her six free-throw attempts against the Pride (10-1) and shot 6-of-9 from the floor on 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also had two assists, just one turnover and a season-high five rebounds.
Her performance, as well as 12 points from sophomore forward
Kendall Tribus, kept the Garnet (2-8) in the game from start to finish. Swarthmore won the third quarter and came within four points of the lead before entering the fourth quarter down seven. Freshman guard
Kim Kockenmeister assisted a good jumper by Stiles to make it 56-51 with 8:06 left in the game.
Swarthmore's next game is in 2019 at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 4 p.m.
