GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College field hockey team kept rolling along with a 6-2 victory over visiting McDaniel College at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium on Wednesday, marking the team's fifth-straight victory of the campaign.
Gettysburg (5-1, 2-0 CC) dominated possession of the ball for much of the game and finished with season highs for shots (39) and penalty corners (21).
Junior
Julia Soares (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) scored a pair of goals in the contest, extending her scoring streak to four games. She's the first Bullet to tally a goal in that many consecutive outings since
Liz Baron '14 in 2012. Sophomore
Grace Torrance (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) added a goal and two assists for Gettysburg.
McDaniel (0-6, 0-2 CC) jumped out to the early lead as Megan Quattrone slapped in the game's first goal on her team's first shot 6:55 into the contest. It took another 12 minutes before the Bullets lit the lamp with Soares getting her stick on a long hit by sophomore
Emma Bertrando (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) in the 19th minute.
Gettysburg tacked on two more scores before the half. Torrance scored her first goal of the season on a penalty stroke at 22:09 and sophomore
Charlotte DiPrete (Providence, R.I./Lincoln) picked up her first career goal just five minutes later.
Soares extended the advantage to 4-1 just under 12 minutes into the second half, knocking down a high pass from Torrance for her team-leading seventh goal of the fall. The Green Terror cut the lead down to 4-2 on a penalty stroke by Madison Downey with less than 14 minutes remaining.
The Bullets closed the day with a pair of first-years getting into the scoring column. Freshman
Christina Orio (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) redirected a hit by Bertrando in the 65th minute for her first collegiate tally, while classmate
Lauren Beccaria (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) closed the scoring by knocking in a baseline pass from DiPrete with 45 seconds left.
Junior
Jillian Caputo (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) posted four saves on the day for Gettysburg.
McDaniel goalie Paige Ford turned away 14 shots in the game, while Downey logged three defensive saves.
Gettysburg visits Ursinus College this Saturday at noon.
