Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Top O' The Standings! Men's Lax 7-0

On St. Patrick's Day, the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team kept the "O" in its record.

The Mules dominated local rival Moravian, 16-2, to improve the best start in program history to 7-0. The only remaining undefeated team in the Centennial Conference and one of just 17 in Division III at the start of the day, Muhlenberg is one win away from tying the school record of eight straight wins.

The victory also gave Muhlenberg an 8-3 lead in the Matte Award standings for 2017-18. The next scheduled Matte contest is a men's tennis match on April 10.

A player who wears "O" - or zero - on his jersey, sophomore Scott Fayan, led the "O" with a career-high four goals. Zero was also the number of shots he missed; he connected on all four of his attempts en route to his first career hat trick. Freshman Ethan Grossman notched his second straight hat trick with three goals and added a pair of assists.

The defense was spectacular, holding an opponent to two goals or fewer for the eighth time in program history, the first since 2009. The Greyhounds (2-3) scored the game's first goal three minutes in and the last one with 1:32 to play but were blanked in the 55 minutes in between.

Sophomore Garrett Pope played the first 40 minutes and recorded nine saves while allowing just one goal. The starting close defense of junior Nolan Robbins (pictured above), sophomore Frank Caterina and freshman Christopher Hyde combined for six ground balls and held Moravian to five shots on goal in the first half.

After the early Greyhound goals, a pair of scores by Fayan gave the Mules the lead for good. After the second one, sophomore Frankie Feaster won the ensuing faceoff, raced down the field and passed to Grossman for Muhlenberg's second goal in 10 seconds.

Feaster finished 12-of-17 in the "X" and picked up nine ground balls, moving into third place on the program's career lists in both faceoffs won (235) and ground balls (159).

A goal by freshman Thomas Murphy and another one by Grossman finished up the Mules' second straight five-goal first quarter. Muhlenberg led 8-1 at halftime and continued to pour in the goals in the second half, adding eight more while playing every healthy player on the roster.

Sophomores Jack Colt and Declan Moylan scored two goals apiece, and freshman Zachary Cooper netted his first career goal.
