Kenyon plays host to the opening rounds of the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament. The Lords enter tournament play with 19-5 record and a No. 9 national ranking. They received a bye in the opening round of the tournament and will await the winner of Friday's match between John Carroll University and Franciscan University. Winners of its last 12 matches, Kenyon earned its spot on the national stage by claiming the North Coast Athletic Conference title for the ninth straight season. The appearance in the NCAA Tournament is the Lords' 14th straight and 19th overall.
John Carroll brings an 11-11 mark and an Ohio Athletic Conerence Tournament championship to Gambier. It's the team's first appearance in the tournament since 2006. The Blue Streaks are not nationally-ranked, but do enter tournament play as a winner in their last eight matches. They'll go up against Franciscan, another non-ranked team. The Barons punched their ticket to the tournament by taking the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title for the third straight season. They have a 9-5 record this season, and like John Carroll, have an eight-match win streak on the line.
Saturday's other match in Gambier will pit Kalamazoo College against Johns Hopkins University. Kalamazoo has a 15-5 record, won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and continued its streak of being the only team to compete in every national championship since its inception in 1976. The Hornets do not have a national rank, but are slotted at No. 10 in the Central Region. Johns Hopkins is ranked No. 17 in the nation and carved out its spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Centennial Conference for the ninth season in a row. The Blue Jays sport a 17-7 record and were victorious in seven of their last eight matches.
