The Muhlenberg wrestling team nearly pulled off an incredible comeback against the dominant program in the Centennial Conference, but came up a point short and fell at Stevens, 27-26.
The Ducks are the four-time defending CC champions and have two wrestlers ranked in the top five in Division III at their weight classes. They also have two others who are listed as rankings contenders or receiving honorable mention from D3wrestle.com.
All four of those wrestlers are at the lower weights, and Stevens - which has not lost a CC dual since 2015 - showed its strength by recording three pins, a technical fall and a major decision in the first five bouts to open up a 27-0 lead.
The Mules (17-6) began their comeback at 165 when junior
Dylan Schwartz pinned his opponent in 1:11, just a second off his fastest career pin. Senior
Jimmy Fratantoni, wrestling at 174 for the first time this season, scored a 14-2 major decision to make it 27-10.
Junior
Cam Wasson (pictured above), in just his fourth bout of the season, needed only 38 seconds to pin his opponent. Of his 15 career wins, 12 are by fall, including all three this season in 1:23 or less.
Senior
Gennaro Cerminara followed with a 21-8 major decision at 197, and a forfeit win at heavyweight accounted for the final score.
