The Muhlenberg softball team pounded out 10 hits and received a complete game effort from senior
Haley Fedak in picking up a 4-1 Centennial Conference victory over Swarthmore.
Â
The Mules (11-19, 4-8 CC) fell behind in the first inning like they did in the early game of the doubleheader, a 10-0 defeat. This time, Muhlenberg rallied back with a three-run second inning that propelled the offense.
Sophomore
Sarah Schubert tied the game with an RBI double to left center, plating senior
Amelia Shelley. Senior
Karissa Astrella then brought home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly. Senior
Hanna Caiola capped off the rally with an RBI single up the middle, allowing Schubert
(pictured above) to score.
Â
Fedak settled in on the mound after giving up an early run, striking out seven batters in her 11th complete game of the season. She has started and finished in all eight of her victories this season.
Â
Fedak pitched out of her biggest jam in the third inning. The Garnet (16-10, 6-6 CC) loaded the bases on a two-out single, but Fedak was able to strike out the next hitter to escape with no runs in the inning.
Â
Muhlenberg added an insurance run in the fifth inning, with junior
Kristina Qualben scoring on a Garnet error.
Â
Caiola, Schubert and Shelley along with junior
Kristy Selby each had two hits in the victory.
Â
Astrella collected her 30th career double in the loss, becoming the sixth player in team history to reach the milestone.
