Session One Results
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Megan Wojnar (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) bested a 26-year old record during the opening day of the Gettysburg College Invitational inside the Bullets Pool Friday night.
Wojnar beat out the most decorated women's swimmer in program history for the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a runner-up finish Friday night. With Dickinson College's Katie Schmidt setting a strong pace in the lane next to her, Wojnar finished with a time of 2:06.91 to edge
Lynne Cassidy '92 (2:07.21) for Gettysburg's record. Cassidy was a two-time national champion in the 500 free and captured 25 All-America awards during her career. Schmidt won Friday's backstroke event with a time of 2:04.61.
Gettysburg closed the first day of its own invitational in second place with 346 points. The University of Mary Washington took the top spot with 366 points. Dickinson College is in third with 246 points followed by Susquehanna University (184) and Bryn Mawr College (57).
The Bullets secured two wins on the day, the first coming in the 100 free where junior
Kate Crilly (Shrewsbury, N.J./Ranney School) held off a late charge by senior
Lindsay Hayden (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy). Crilly finished in a time of 53.39, while Hayden notched a personal best at 53.72, which ranks sixth in program history.
Freshman
Katie Cooper (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) recorded the second-fastest time at Gettysburg on the way to a win in the 200 breaststroke. Cooper won by over two seconds with a time of 2:23.44 and finished just one second shy of the program record held by
Caroline Moyer '17 (2:22.42).
Gettysburg had several close runner-up finishes. Wojnar and Cooper teamed up with freshman
Katie Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow) and Crilly for a second-place showing in the 200 medley relay (1:49.64). Crilly also anchored the 400 free relay alongside Hayden and freshmen
Cate Kosko (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury East) and
Tess Kasunic (Germantown, Md./Northwest) which finished second with a time of 3:37.24.
Jenkins managed the second-fastest time in program history in a runner-up finish in the 200 fly. Jenkins logged a time of 2:08.45, just 0.23 seconds shy of
Kelly Brennan's '00 school record of 2:08.22. Sophomore
Sydney Jaramillo (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) took third in that race with a time of 2:14.65.
Sophomore
Katherine Sears (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) and Mary Washington's Claudia Keller swam side-by-side throughout the 1,650 free. Sears led for most of the race until a late push by Keller in the final 25 yards helped her grab the win by 0.18 seconds. Sears' time of 17:46.10 was a PR and marked the fifth-fastest mark in school history. Senior
Maggie Morehouse (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) finished third in 18:04.46.
The races resume at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The program includes the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and 800 free relay. Saturday's final session starts at 5 p.m.
