GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
Powered by nine first-place finishes on Saturday, the Gettysburg College men's swimming team cruised to the title at its home invitational in the Bullets Pool to cap the opening semester of competition.

Gettysburg posted four wins in the morning session and then swept the five evening events. The Bullets won a total of 14 of the 18 races over the two-day meet and finished with 1,087 points, nearly out-distancing runner-up University of Mary Washington by 200 points (895).

Arguably the most intriguing race of the day opened the morning session as twin brothers Jack Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) from Gettysburg and Will Freeman from Dickinson squared off in the 400 IM. The two siblings were situated side-by-side in the pool and Will appeared to have the edge following a strong breaststroke leg, but Jack flew through the final 100 yards of the freestyle to overtake his brother with a time of 4:11.88. Will touched the wall just 0.13 behind.

Sophomore Oliver Yancey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath-Haven) posted a pair of individual wins, while also helping the 200 free relay claim victory. Yancey established PRs in both of his individual races, claiming the top spots in the 100 breaststroke in 58.66 and the 50 free in 21.11. The times marked the fourth- and eighth-fastest times in programs history in those respective events.

Yancey swam the second leg of the 200 free relay and went a squad-best 20.57. He teamed with sophomores Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior) and freshman Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) for the top time at 1:24.18.

A day removed from breaking the two-decade old 200-backstroke record, Edelson tacked on a victory in the 200 IM. The sophomore used the butterfly to get out to the early lead and closed with a fast freestyle for a time of 1:55.69, which pushed him into the fourth spot on Gettysburg's all-time list.

Edelson contributed to his sixth victory of the meet as a member of the 800 free relay. Sophomore Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), Collins, and Nonemaker joined Edelson to post a time of 6:57.26. The only race Edelson didn't win this weekend was in the 100 butterfly where he finished second to Mary Washington's Jeff Leckrone with a time of 51.24. Collins filled the third spot in that race at 51.42.

Petrillo jumped into the win column by edging Nonemaker for the 200 free title. Petrillo came into the wall at 1:43.11 with Nonemaker close on his heels at 1:43.58. Nonemaker also placed third in the 50 free (21.43).

The Bullets dominated the 500 free race with sophomore Duncan Proxmire (McLean, Va./Langley), junior Josh Parker (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills), and freshman CJ Hewitt (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) going 1-2-3. Hewitt burst out to the early lead before Parker slipped in front with about 100 yards to go. Proxmire kept pace and pulled off a comeback win over the final 25 yards to add another championship to his 1,650 title from Friday night. Hewitt also finished third behind the Freeman brothers in the 400 IM (4:13.92).

Gettysburg's final win came in the 400 medley relay after Mary Washington's top team suffered a disqualification. Freeman, junior Adam Dias (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), Hewitt, and junior Ogden Leyens (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) posted a time of 3:32.00 to earn the No. 1 position. Earlier in the day, Dias came up with a third-place showing in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.64.

Gettysburg is off from competition until a home dual against Mary Washington on Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. The Bullets travel to Barbados for a training trip in early January.
