The Muhlenberg men's basketball team, looking to upset a nationally ranked Swarthmore team for the second time this calendar year, fell behind early and could not catch up, falling 83-65.
In January, the Mules scored a 91-88 overtime win when the Garnet was ranked seventh in Division III. The rematch got off to a good start when freshman
Nate Henty Brown drove in for a dunk on Muhlenberg's first possession, but Swarthmore scored the next 11 points to take the lead for good.
The Mules (5-4, 3-2), who had their three-game winning streak snapped, were within 26-23 before the 23rd-ranked Garnet (6-2, 3-2) went on a 20-0 run to pull away.
Muhlenberg cut the deficit to 12, at 61-49, midway through the second half, but a banked-in three at the shot-clock buzzer squelched the comeback attempt.
Junior
Matt Gnias led the Mules with 12 points, while senior
Erik Werheim and freshman
Dan Gaines scored 10 apiece. Henty Brown
(pictured above) pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds, missing a double-double by one point.
