Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Late Surge Pushes Garnet Past Knights

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Scoring six unanswered goals in the final eight minutes of action, Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse rallied to a 16-13 win over the Arcadia University Knights on Monday evening.

Elizabeth Wainwright scored a game-high five goals on six shots. Kathryn Restrepo also added five points by recording a hat trick and dishing out two assists.

Tess Wild played a part in half of Swarthmore's goals, scoring two goals and dealing out a season-high six assists to finish with eight points. Her fantastic stat line included seven draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Taylor Chiang and Sophie Peipher both added a pair of goals as well. Julia Ostrowski and Andie Battin each scored once to round out Swarthmore's total.

A back-and-forth battle ensued early on with neither team gaining a two-goal advantage until Swarthmore went ahead 8-6 early in the second half on a player-up goal. Arcadia proceeded to tie the game at 8-8, but Battin answered 18 seconds later with a goal.

The Garnet hit a snag when Arcadia rattled off four consecutive goals to take a 12-9 lead with 19 minutes to play. The Garnet inched back closer with a shorthanded free-position goal by Peipher with 12:28 left. Arcadia got a goal back and Swarthmore trailed by three goals with less than 10 minutes to go.

Restrepo, off a quick inbound from Chiang, beat the shot clock buzzer with 7:40 to play in the game to bring Swarthmore within two. Chiang found a goal after setting up on the left post and getting a nice pass from Wild, making it a one-goal game with 3:27 left.

One minute later Ostrowski found an open lane and buried the equalizer.

Peipher made a fade-away free-position shot with just 1:56 to go to put Swarthmore ahead for good. Sadie Camilliere helped secure the win on the defensive end by checking the ball free from Arcadia along the end line and recovering possession for Swarthmore with 1:45 left.

Wild, after killing some clock, added an insurance goal with 12 seconds left. Wild won the next draw and found Wainwright for the final score just before the buzzer sounded.

Swarthmore finishes non-conference play at home on Wednesday against Moravian.
