WILMINGTON, Del.--Freshman
Michael Brown made a big splash in his first ever collegiate competition, winning the Swarthmore-Neumann Invitational with a 68 (-3) at Rock Manor Golf Club on Sunday.
Brown finished first in a field of 82 competitors and was just one stroke off the Swarthmore program record.
The Garnet top's squad recorded a 297 to win the invitational ahead of 15 other teams. The Garnet's second squad recorded a 332 and came in eighth.
Brown started off his first hole, the 563-yard 10th hole, with a birdie, and then recorded four birdies after the turn.
Dan Altieri carded a 74 with back-to-back birdies on five and six and finished third overall. Freshman
Ankur Malik carded a 75 to tie for fourth overall and finished with a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-five 18th hole.
Adam Agustin and
Nick DiMaio both shot 80s.
For Swarthmore's Maroon squad,
Hunter Hughes and
Chris Zhang shot 80s as well.
Arjun Madan recorded an 84,
Joshua Siegel shot an 87, and
Max Katz-Balmes and
Kevin Zheng carded 88s.
The Garnet are scheduled to play next at the Country Club of Harrisburg on Saturday and Sunday.
