Men's Lacrosse Rallies To Beat Bears

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse trailed 9-5 late in the third quarter after the visiting Ursinus College Bears went on a six-goal streak. The Garnet came up big in the final 18 minutes of the game and out-scored the Bears 7-1 down the stretch to win the game 12-10.

Swarthmore, now 6-2 overall this season, earned its first win in Centennial Conference play (1-1). Ursinus dipped to 1-8 and took its fifth loss of the season by two goals or fewer.

Cam Marsh and Zander Levitz each recorded hat tricks in the win. Marsh now has 99 goals in his career, passing Ian Lukaszewicz '15 for fifth all-time at Swarthmore. Austin Chang added a pair, and Nathaniel Johns, Jake Ross, Andrew Estella and Mason Evarts each scored one.

Frankie Dillon played between the pipes for the Garnet for the final 22 minutes and only allowed one goal while saving three attempts. John Calia finished with seven saves and nine goals allowed.

Swarthmore won 13-of-22 faceoffs with Ryan Izquierdo winning 11 times and Hunter Luber twice.

After an even 1-1 first quarter, the Garnet held onto a 5-4 lead at halftime. Ursinus had scored with just seven seconds left in the second quarter and then scored the first five goals in the third quarter, including three man-up goals.

Swarthmore responded with its own man-up goal by Jake Ross with 3:04 left in the third quarter to stop Ursinus' run. Later, with just two seconds left in the third, Levitz zipped in his second of the game. Levitz tallied a man-up goal with 10:56 left in the fourth to complete his hat trick. The Garnet converted on another EMO with nine minutes left on a goal from Chang to even the score at 10-10. Swarthmore scored the go-ahead goal with 3:23 left on a strike by Evarts, the freshman. Marsh added an insurance goal with 1:45 to play.

The Garnet continue Centennial play by hosting No. 4 Gettysburg College on Saturday.
