Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Slips Against No. 17 F&M

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse had its seven-game win streak come to an end on Saturday with the Centennial Conference opener against No. 17 Franklin and Marshall College. The Swarthmore Garnet hung with the Diplomats for the whole first half, but the Diplomats pulled away in the third quarter and went on to win 17-7.

The Garnet struck first in the contest on a goal from freshman Will Vespole. The Garnet got a goal from Vespole, Ryan Mulvey and Zander Levitz. Jake Ross and Austin Chang both netted a pair of goals in the setback. Ross leads Swarthmore in total points this season with 29 while Chang leads the Garnet with 23 goals.

After a pair of F&M goals, Chang responded with a pair of his own goals. Ross scored with 1:39 left in the first quarter to bump Swarthmore's lead up to 4-2.

F&M picked up the first two goals of the second quarter to even the score, but a man-up goal from Levitz gave Swarthmore the 5-4 advantage with 2:32 to play. However, F&M scored again with 15 seconds left in the half to even the score.

That goal gave F&M momentum going into the second half and trigged a 9-0 run that put the game out of reach for Swarthmore. F&M won eight of nine faceoffs in the third quarter to establish themselves securely in the lead. Mulvey stopped the bleeding with a nice low goal from just outside the crease to open the fourth quarter.

Frankie Dillon finished with eight saves for Swarthmore.

The Garnet now set their sights on Ursinus next Saturday on the road.
