SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 31-15 victory at Roanoke College in the first-ever dual match for the Maroons' program.

Riley Parker (Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial) in the 125-pound match by a score of 7-5 in overtime.

David Rubin (Matawan, N.J. / Matawan Regional) turned the tables in the 133-pound match, getting a reversal on first-year Sean Hall and then recording a pin in 2:18 for a 6-3 W&L advantage. Senior 141-pounder
Charlie Cunningham (Pequannock, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) followed with a 3-1 decision over RC first-year Dustin Smith for a 9-3 W&L lead.
Roanoke pulled even at 9-9 with a pin by first-year Jarrod Pominville at 149 pounds, but the Generals registered pins in the next two weight classes and a decision at 174 for a commanding 24-9 lead. Junior 157-pounder
Ryan Luth (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran) pinned first-year David Reid in 2:25 and senior 165-pounder
Joe Salerno (Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South) followed with a pin of first-year Johnny Moshman in 4:02. Junior
Cameron Blizard (Greensboro, N.C. / Ragsdale) then posted an 8-2 decision over first-year Steven Martinos at 174 pounds to give the Generals some breathing room.
Roanoke made things interesting with a pin at 184 pounds to pull within 24-15, but seniors
Rob Rosen (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) and
Clay Chadwick (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) won at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively, to close out the match. Rosen major decisioned first-year Jackson Shumate 11-3 and Chadwick posted a 6-0 win over Brady Elswick.
Washington and Lee will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson for a 9:45 invitational.
