FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Gettysburg College baseball team lost 5-1 in the opener, then fell 7-4 in the nightcap versus Albright College on the opening day of its Spring Break trip to Florida on Sunday.
In the opener, the game was tied 1-1 heading into the final inning. Albright (3-0) scored four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning to take the 5-1 lead. The Bullets (0-5) were not able to respond in their final at-bat.
Sophomore
Banks Northington (Charlottesville, Va. /Charlottesville) had the lone RBI for the Bullets when he drew a bases loaded walk in the third inning to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead.
Senior
Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J. /Westfield) started on the mound for Gettysburg. He pitched 3 1/3 innings while giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out five. DeMartino was relieved by freshman
Myles Burbank (Rye, N.Y. /Rye) in the fourth inning. Burbank tossed three scoreless innings in relief before giving up two runs in the seventh and recording the loss.
In the nightcap, the Bullets jumped out to an early lead but were not able to hold on. Senior
Jack Seibert (Yardley, Pa. /Holy Ghost Prep) hit an RBI double in the second inning to give the Bullets a 3-1 advantage. Albright responded with a pair of runs in both the third and a fourth inning to go up 6-3. Gettysburg was able to cut the deficit to two runs when sophomore
Ryan Augustus (Freehold, N.J. /Princeton Day School) hit a sac fly in the sixth inning but that would be the end of the Bullets scoring on the day as they fell 7-4 to the Lions.
Freshman
Erik Wortmann (Garden City, N.Y. /Garden City) started for the Bullets, giving up five earned runs over 3 2/3 innings and recording the loss. Junior
Jonny Bray (Fairfax, Va. /Robinson) pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up one run and striking out two.
Sophomore
Ryan LaCoe (Hershey, Pa. /Hershey) reached base four times on the day going 2-for-4 and drawing two walks.
Gettysburg continues its seven-day, 10-game trip on Monday, when it takes on Western Connecticut in another double-header starting a 12:30 P.M.
