No. 7 Wrestling Decimates Opponents In Home Quad

HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 21, 2017) – The No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team registered eight falls Saturday afternoon in Hoboken in a pair of dominating Centennial Conference wins over Gettysburg and McDaniel.

The Ducks started the day with a 46-3 victory over Gettysburg, before topping McDaniel 43-9 in match two.

The wins pushed Stevens' dual record to 16-0, and extended its historic win streak to 30. The victories also pushed Stevens' Centennial Conference win streak to seven.

No. 7 Stevens 46, Gettysburg 3
After senior Rob Murray gave Stevens the early lead with a 9-2 decision win at 125, freshman No. 1 Troy Stanich and freshman Dylan Van Sickell followed with falls at 133 and 141 respectively. Stanich earned the pin in 3:39 to give him 13 for the season, while Van Sickell got it done in 1:20.

Junior No. 7 Zach Wilhelm continued the dominance with a 22-8 major at 149, followed by a fall for junior Aaron Wolang at 157 in 2:13. A 25-9 technical fall victory for senior No. 8 Colin Navickas came next at 165, while junior Josh Smith converted the 13-2 major at 174.

A forfeit at 184 in Stevens' favor and a pin for junior No. 8 A.J. Kowal clinched Stevens' 46 points in what was Kowal's team-leading 15th fall of the season.

Gettysburg did get on the board at 285 with No. 5 Paul Triandafilou's decision win over senior Pete Andrich, but the loss had no impact on Stevens' rout.

The four falls matched the mark set against Hunter earlier this season, while the 43 point margin of victory was Stevens' largest of the season.
