SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 25 Swarthmore College Men's Swimming improved to 4-0 with a 163-99 win over the visiting Ursinus College Bears on Saturday. The Garnet bookended their performance with wins in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
Swarthmore also had top-billing in the 200-yard freestyle, the 100 and 200 back, the 100 and 200 breaststroke, the 50 free and100 free, the 100 fly and the 200 IM.
Saturday's dual meet featured the first head-to-head collegiate battle between brother
Alec Menzer, a Swarthmore freshman, and Jake Menzer, an Ursinus sophomore. Jake beat Alec in the 500 free, but Alec topped him in the 200 IM.
The younger Menzer additionally won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.40.
Jeffrey Tse won the 100 backstroke in 50.78 and the 200 in 1:55.66. His time in the 100 back is a new Ware Pool record. He also finished first in the 100 fly (51.72).
Jerry Gu claimed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.06) and teammates
Alejandro Hernandez (1:01.92) and
Henry Wilson (1:02.29) helped make it a clean sweep of the top three.
Steven Chen (2:16.71),
Luke Wang (2:17.35) and Gu (2:17.66) took one-two-three in the 200 breaststroke.
Charles Yang's 21.97 in the 50 free led the way.
Chris Smith posted a 48.41 in the 100 free for first place.
Swarthmore is back in action at Division II West Chester University next Friday and Saturday.
