LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior
Mikaela Collins (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) broke the indoor school record in the shot put, leading the Gettysburg College women's track and field team in its first meet of the season on Saturday at the Diplomat Open, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.
On her first throw of the season, Collins uncorked a toss of 41 feet, three inches, surpassing the previous school record by nearly two feet. She became the first Bullet to exceed 40 feet in the indoor shot put and bettered the former mark of 39-9 3/4 set by
Sara Graham '17 last season. Collins finished fourth out of 62 competitors in the event.
Several additional Bullets also competed well on Saturday. Sophomore
Katharine Taylor (Belmar, N.J./Saint Rose) placed ninth in a field of 45 in the weight throw with a heave of 42-0 – a mark that ranks third in school history – while classmate
Kenzie Horst (Stevens, Pa./Ephrata) was 12th in the same event (39-6).
Senior
Sarah Congdon (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) added a 10th-place finish in a field of 47 in the 400-meter dash (1:03.56), and she was also 15th out of 51 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles (10.12).
Gettysburg is off from competition until Jan. 27, when it competes at the Lehigh John Covert Classic.
