ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Hannah Fireman (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) earned her first collegiate title to lead Gettysburg College at the McDaniel College Spring Invitational held at The Bridges Golf Club on Saturday.
Fireman overcame the frigid temperatures to fire an 82 and win the tournament by one stroke in a field of 44 players. She made up a three-stroke deficit at the turn with a two-over 38 on the back nine, highlighted by a pair of birdies on the 12th and 17th holes.
As a team, Gettysburg shot 359 on the par-72, 5,831-yard course to take second out of nine teams. Stevenson University claimed the team title with a 353.
Sophomore
Skylar Frankiewicz (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) birdied the par-5, 422-yard No. 5 hole and finished sixth overall with an 87. Senior
Fontaine McFeaters (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and sophomore
Erin Schroeder (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) each fired a 95 to tie for 17th. Junior
Gillian Marini (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) rounded out the lineup with a 101 to tie for 28th.
Gettysburg hosts Dickinson College for a dual on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. at Hanover Country Club in Abbottstown, Pa.
