GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team closed its regular season with a 28-12 loss to No. 18 York (Pa.) College inside Bream Gym Friday night.
Gettysburg (10-7) opened the match with a bang as junior
Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) posted his sixth pin of the season just 1:24 into his match at 125 pounds. Ogozalek improved to 23-17 with the victory.
York (14-4) won seven of the next eight bouts to jump ahead in the team score. Sophomore
Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) broke the streak with a 3-1 decision over Chad Wickard at 157 pounds to improve to 20-4 on the year.
The Bullets closed with a win in the heavyweight bout as eighth-ranked
Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) edged Stefanos Karpontinis 2-1. Triandafilou held Karpontinis on the mat for over one minute to start the second period and scored an escape to open the third period to clinch the win. He improved to 24-1 this season.
In an exhibition match at 141 pounds, junior
Louie Carusillo (Pequannock, N.J./DePaul Catholic) recorded a 10-1 major decision over Robert Rodolico. Carusillo did most of his work in the second period when he scored a takedown and a pair of near-falls.
Gettysburg marches on to the postseason with the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship hosted by Ferrum College in Rocky Mount, Va., on Feb. 24-25.
