The Muhlenberg wrestling team closed out the calendar year with a strong overall performance at the Wilkes Invitational.

Of the 26 Mules who competed, 13 placed in the top six, with three - sophomore Ricky Caamano (133), freshman Anson Dewar (157) and sophomore Keshon Davila (HWT) - reaching the championship final. 

Davila made the biggest splash in his collegiate wrestling debut, just 18 days after finishing up an All-Centennial Conference season as a defensive end for the Muhlenberg football team. He won all three of his bouts before forfeiting out of the final. Davila pinned his first opponent early in the second period and defeated the top seed in dramatic fashion in the semifinals, scoring an escape and takedown in the final 30 seconds to pull out a 4-3 decision.

Caamano advanced to his second tournament final of the season, dropping a close 5-4 decision to the top seed from Division I Long Island University. Dewar, seeded sixth, recorded a technical fall against the third seed in the quarters en route to his first career tournament final.

Three Muhlenberg 125-pounders won at least three bouts. Sophomore Joey Lamparelli (pictured above) and freshman Frank DiEsso each went 3-1, with DiEsso pinning the third seed, and were due to face each other in the consolation final for the second tournament in a row. They elected not to wrestle. Freshman Brian McCaw won four bouts in the consolation bracket, two by fall, to place fifth.

Freshman Chris Sockler had a busy day at 149, coming back to place fifth after dropping his first bout. He officially went 5-2, with three of his wins coming by forfeit and two on pins in 66 seconds or fewer.

Two Mules won a pair of bouts in their collegiate debuts. Freshman Jack Patti (174) recorded a first-minute pin and 8-7 decision, and freshman heavyweight Andrew Franklin, like Davila a football defensive end, won on a first-period pin and sudden-victory takedown.
