Complete ResultsFREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Gettysburg College women's swimming team suffered just its second loss of the season, dropping a 134-128 decision at the University of Mary Washington in a non-conference dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The Bullets (5-2), competing for the first time since Dec. 6, trailed by just two points (114-112) heading into the next-to-last event, the 200-IM. But that's when the Eagles (7-2) used a 1-2-3 sweep to outscored Gettysburg 16-3 in the event and break the meet open.
Sophomore
Caroline Moyer (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) led the Orange and Blue, winning two individual events and swimming on a winning relay team. She captured both the 100-breaststroke (1:08.91) and the 200-breastroke (2:30.16), leading a sweep in the latter. Junior
Marie Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa./State College) was second in 2:35.26 while senior
Gwen Houck (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College) took third in 2:39.54.
Three other Bullets picked up individual victories. Gettysburg finished 1-2 in the 1,000-freestyle, with junior
Lea Candelmo (Oakland, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) winning in 11:08.18 and sophomore
Nicolette Gibbons (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) placing second in 11:12.89. Freshman
Kate Hegwood (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won the 200-backstroke in 2:13.37 while classmate
Savannah Llewellyn (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield) claimed the 100-butterfly in 1:01.07.
The 200-freestyle relay closed the meet with a victory, as Moyer, freshman
Jules Marble (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township), sophomore
Carlin Baker (Rawlings, Md./Fort Hill), and senior
Ellie Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) teamed up for a 1:44.53.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action next Saturday, when it hosts Swarthmore College at 2 p.m.
