Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Wainwright Reaches 100th Goal At Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse's three-goal lead with nine minutes to go turned out to be not enough on Wednesday evening. Swarthmore's 12-9 lead over Washington College faded as the Shorewomen closed out the game with four straight goals and a 13-12 win.

Elizabeth Wainwright tallied two goals for the Garnet to reach and then cross the 100 goal mark for her career. Kathryn Restrepo led the Garnet with four goals overall and she also had an assist for a game-high five points.

Sydnie Schwarz added a pair of goals, and Bridget Silveira, Tess Wild, Julia Ostrowski and Mackenzie Frost also scored.

Swarthmore led 3-2 eight minutes in, but Washington pounced for six straight goals. However, the Garnet responded with three goals to close out the half and then continued the run into the second half with another four in a row. Restrepo closed out the run with her third of the game on a player-down goal with 22:15 to play.

Washington interrupted Swarthmore's run with a player-up goal, but the Garnet soon had an extra player opportunity and capitalized on it on Restrepo's fourth of the game at 20:23. Schwarz capped off Swarthmore's scoring at 18:08 to put the Garnet up 12-9. The Shorewomen rattled off four straight goals to close out the game, scoring the equalizer on a free-position shot with 1:51 to play and the game-winner with 51 seconds left. Swarthmore took a shot at evening the score with 29 seconds to play, but Wild's shot was saved.

Wild led all players with eight draw controls and helped Swarthmore to a 14-13 advantage on the draw.

The Garnet (10-5, 3-5 CC) wrap up the 2018 season at home on Saturday against Haverford College.
