Baseball Stays Hot With Sweep At Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa.--Swarthmore College Baseball beat Dickinson College 13-2 and 9-1 in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Garnet (18-6 overall, 5-1 Centennial Conferece) have won nine of their last 10 games.

Game One: Swarthmore 13, Dickinson 2

The Garnet jumped on the Red Devils early, scoring six runs in the second and third innings combined.

Sophomore AJ Liu plated senior Matt Palmer on a single in the second. In the third, sophomore Jared Gillen drove in junior Jackson Roberts with a double, and Palmer singled to score junior Conor Elliott.

After a scoreless fourth, the Garnet came back to score seven runs from the fifth to the seventh and take a 13-0 lead. Elliott, Roberts, Gillen, sophomore Cole Beeker, junior Charlie Levitt and freshmen Coleson Hebble and Sam Jacobson had RBIs during the rally.

Sophomore Sawyer Lake started on the mound for the Garnet and improved to 4-1 this season. He had eight strikeouts in six scoreless innings, during which he allowed just four hits.

Gillen led the Garnet with three hits in his five at bats.

Game Two: Swarthmore 9, Dickinson 1
Junior Ricky Conti allowed one run in the bottom of the first inning, and that would be the only inning Swarthmore would trail in all day.

In the top of the second, Ellott scored on a pass ball, and Roberts gave Swarthmore the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Continuing to scrap out runs, Liu drove in Elliott with a fly out in the fourth, and Hebble scored on an error in that same inning.

The Garnet held a 6-1 lead over the next two innings before Beeker had an RBI single in the seventh and a two-RBI single in the eighth.

Conti earned his team-leading fifth win of the season with seven strikeouts over eight innings of three-hit baseball. He had one win in his career entering the season.

Next up for Swarthmore is a home-and-home with Muhlenberg on Tuesday in Allentown, Pa., at 3:30 p.m. and Friday in Swarthmore at 3:30 p.m.
