Women’s Soccer Plays Haverford to Scoreless Draw

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team battled Centennial Conference foe Haverford College to a scoreless double overtime draw at Walton Field on Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (6-3-2, 3-1-1- CC) and Haverford (6-3-1, 3-1-1 CC) are both currently tied for fourth in the Centennial Conference standings.

Freshman Madelyn Cunningham (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) collected four saves for Gettysburg (1-0-1), all of which occurred in the first half, to earn her second shutout of the season. Goalie Julie Hanss accumulated five saves for Haverford.

In the opening half, the Fords outshot the Bullets 7-3. The Bullets defense was exceptional as Haverford did not muster another shot until the second overtime period. Gettysburg went on to register six shots in the second-half, two in the first overtime, and one in double-overtime to finish the match outshooting Haverford 12-8. Of the 12 shots for Gettysburg, five were on goal. The Bullets also held the slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The closet scoring opportunity the Bullets had during the overtime period was at the 95th minute when senior Lauren Miesemer (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) drilled a shot that hit the post.

Gettysburg picks up its schedule when they welcome Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference affair on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
