The Muhlenberg men's golf team opened its 2016-17 season by taking first place out of 17 teams at the Messiah College Falcon Classic.

With a team score of 304, the Mules finished five strokes ahead of second-place Lebanon Valley.

It was the third straight year that Muhlenberg won its opening tournament after bringing home the trophy from the Moravian Fall Invitational in both 2014 and 2015.

Sophomore Ian Simon led the Mules and finished sixth overall out of 86 competitors with a 2-over-par 74. He shot two eagles, on the par-5 fifth and 17th holes.

Junior Evan Overcash shot a 76 to tie for eighth, while senior John Froberg and sophomore Ben Lieberman were a stroke behind. Muhlenberg was the only team with four golfers in the 70s.
