Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Garnet Edged By Roadrunners In Double OT

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer showed plenty of promise in its season opener, but were ultimately clipped by the Ramapo College Roadrunners in the second half of overtime on Saturday afternoon. Ramapo (2-0) tallied a penalty kick goal in the 104th minute for the 1-0 win.

Swarthmore recorded 14 shots to Ramapo's 12 and the Garnet put seven of those shots on goal.

Felix Laniyan, Yuheng Wang, Joey Bradley, Joe Barile, Charley Ward, Julian Bueno and Woojin Shin all placed shots on goal but were turned away.

Transfer student Ethan Witkowski put a volley just wide right of the goal in the opening minute. Eighteen minutes in, Wang nearly curled in a shot off a corner kick, but was denied. Shin had a good attempt in transition but had his shot saved on a diving stop in the 33rd minute.

Another great chance for the Garnet came in the 62nd minute when Wang plunked a shot from the left wing off the crossbar.

The Garnet held a 13-8 shot advantage after regulation, but in extra time, the Roadrunners took two shots in each period while Swarthmore attempted one per period.

The game was physical with Ramapo drawing four yellow cards and Swarthmore three. Swarthmore found itself down a man in the second overtime after Trevor Homstad picked up his second booking of the day.

Off the resulting free kick, Swarthmore was signaled for a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick for Ramapo's Joseph Fala. Fala shot's went in to the right for the golden goal.

Oliver Steinglass recorded four saves in goal for the Garnet in the loss.

Swarthmore is right back at it at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday against Methodist University.
