The Muhlenberg field hockey team improved to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 1-0 home shutout of Haverford.
Four days after stunning fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 1-0, the Mules (2-4, 2-0) showed no letdown, scoring the lone goal with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. And just like in the F&M game, the goal came off a penalty corner that started and ended with the same player.
The insertion by sophomore
Morgan Tietz went to senior
Emily Davis, who sent a shot toward the Haverford goal. As the goalie came out to meet the ball, junior
Courtney Allen flicked it to Tietz
(pictured above), who buried the shot in the left side of the net for her first career goal.
The defense took care of the rest, holding the Fords (4-2, 0-1) to four shots the rest of the game. Junior
Jordan Segrave finished with three saves for her fifth career shutout.
Muhlenberg came close to expanding its lead in the second half, putting two shots past the Haverford goalie, but both were cleared away by field players.
