SALEM, Va. – Senior
Matt Robinson (Taneytown, Md./Pinkerton Academy [N.H]) placed second in the 800-meter run to pace the Gettysburg College men's indoor track and field team as they competed at the Roanoke Noke Elite Meet on Saturday.
The Bullets finished with 51 points and came in fifth among six teams. Carnegie Mellon University captured first with 222 points while Washington and Lee University (153) and Denison University (86) rounded out the top-three.
Robinson finished runner-up in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:00.02. Senior
Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and junior
Sam Sheldon (Tully, N.Y./Tully) also competed in the event and cracked the top-10 by registering 5th (2:01.16) and eighth (2:05.38), respectively.
The strongest event for the Bullets on the track was the mile run as four placed in the top-10. Petrecca cruised the course in 4:30.17 to place fourth, while Sheldon (4:33.90) gathered sixth. Sophomore
Dylan McKeever (Furlong, PA./Central Bucks East) [4:42.15] and Robinson (4:44.12) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Senior
Thad Cwiklinski (Glen Rock, Pa./York Catholic) placed ninth in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 53.26.
In the 5,000-meter run, junior
Jonathan Gronke (Morris Plain, N.J./Morristown) claimed eighth (17:12.31) and sophomore
Nick Rose (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) placed 10th (17:46.40).
Three top-10 showings occurred in the 60-meter hurdles with sophomore
Matt Simmers (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) leading the charge with of a time of 9.74 for fifth. He was followed by freshman
Steven Heinbaugh (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) in sixth (10.06) and sophomore
Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) in seventh (10.30).
In the 4x400, the members of Heinbaugh, Grissinger, Cwiklinski, and freshman
Matthew Weller (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) notched third-place, clocking a time of 3:36.96.
On the field, freshman
Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5'11.25". Close behind was Weller in ninth with a height of 5'7.25".
Junior
Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School [Conn.]) leaped 20'11.25" to record fourth overall in the long jump while freshman
Frederick Tubula (Narok, Pa./Friends Select School) took ninth (19'8.75").
In the pole vault, Grissinger claimed ninth (11'6.25") and
Thaddeus Karaman (Sherburne, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) finished 10th (11'0.25").
Freshman
Stephen Kostohryz (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) collected 10th in the shot put with a heave of 30'3" and in the weight throw (37'10").
Senior
Mike Cortese (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) tossed 39'3" in the weight throw for a ninth-place finish.
The Bullets will next compete at the Susquehanna Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 9:30 a.m.
