Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Upset Bid Thwarted

The Muhlenberg women's soccer team was 10 minutes away from an upset but fell at sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins, 2-1.

The Mules (6-4-1, 1-3-1) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when sophomore Cece Peden took advantage of miscommunication between two backs as the Blue Jays were attempting to play the ball backwards. Peden (pictured above) pounced on the loose ball about 45 yards from the goal, dribbled to the top of the box and fired a perfect shot under the crossbar for her third goal of the season. It was the first goal scored by Muhlenberg against Johns Hopkins since 2012.

Despite pressure from the Blue Jays (8-1-4, 2-0-3), who took 16 shots in the second half, the lead stood up for most of the game. Senior Libby Juliano made six saves, including a diving stop in the 67th minute.

Hopkins, which has not lost a Centennial Conference regular-season game at home in four years, tied the game on a deflection off a free kick with 9:23 remaining, then netted the winner on a penalty kick with just 1:18 on the clock.
