Women's Lacrosse Wins Opener

Box Score

It was a soggy and successful start to the 2015 season for the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team.

Senior Stephanie Umbach tied two school records with 12 points on nine goals and three assists as the Mules rolled past Walsh, 19-4, in rainy Hilton Head, S.C.

Umbach's 12 points tied a mark set late last year and moved her into second place on the program's all-time scoring list with 221 career points. Her nine goals matched a record set three times previously.

Umbach, who also recorded nine draw controls, scored three goals in the first 15:17 to extend her streak of consecutive hat tricks to 23 and help Muhlenberg to a 9-2 lead. She added a natural hat trick to close out the first-half scoring and made it four straight early in the second half, extending the advantage to 14-3.

Other players enjoyed personal milestones. Senior Sarah McTamany scored the first goal of the season just 63 seconds into the game and later added another goal for her first career multiple-goal game. Sophomore Stephanie D'Ascoli (pictured above) had two goals and an assist in her first career start. Freshmen Jordy Bonvini and Nicole Dvoretsky each found the back of the net in their collegiate debut, with Bonvini scoring twice.

Junior Amanda Orlak led the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers and made a rare entry in the scoring column, setting up D'Ascoli's second goal for her second career assist.
