The Muhlenberg women's basketball team struggled from the field in the second half in a 65-55 setback to Gettysburg.
Coming out of halftime with a 35-28 lead, the Mules (9-6, 5-5) converted just eight field goals in the second half, including one three. The Bullets (13-2, 10-0), who entered the game ranked 20
th in the D3hoops.com poll, used six threes and hit 11-of-12 free throws to overcome the deficit.
Sophomore
Ny Thomas (pictured above) knocked down a three to put the Mules in front 8-5 early in a 21-7 run the consumed the final 5:22 of the first quarter. The guard netted three of the team's five first-quarter threes for nine of her team-high 12 points; she was one of seven Mules to score in the frame.
Gettysburg closed the gap to four in the second quarter, before junior
Emilie Benton hit a three with 1:15 to go and freshman
Tara Szawaluk ended the first half's scoring with a jumper with 35 ticks remaining until the break.
Shortly after the Bullets took a brief one-point lead with 6:29 left in the fourth quarter, Szawaluk knocked down a jumper off a feed from junior
Emily O'Mahoney to put the Mules back in front by one just shy of the midway point of the frame. The Bullets hit a three two possessions later to take the lead for good with 3:40 remaining.
Szawaluk pulled in a career-best seven rebounds to go with her 10 points, her second double-digit scoring game of the season. Junior
Madison Kirchofer tied a career-best nine rebounds to lead all players.
