ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Matt Robinson (Taneytown, Md./Pinkerton Academy [N.H.]) and freshman
Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) registered the top finishes for the Gettysburg College men's track and field in the outdoor season debut at the Elizabethtown Opener at Elizabethtown College on Saturday.
Robinson placed first out of 12 competitors in the 800-meter run (2:00.44), while Palazzolo captured first in the high jump (5-10 ¾) and triple jump (40-9).
Gettysburg placed third, fourth, and fifth in the 100-meter dash. Freshman
Kevon Musgrove (St. Petersburg, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic) claimed third (11.73), sophomore
Colin Motill (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) took fourth (11.82), and junior
Dylan O'Neil (Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley) was fifth (11.91).
Other top performers for the Bullets include senior
Thad Cwiklinski (Glen Rock, Pa./York Catholic), who placed second in a field of 15 in the 400-meter dash (51.00), senior
Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde), who placed third in the mile (4:28.48) and fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:57.08), sophomore
Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey), who came in third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.88) and fifth (23.38) in the 200-meter dash out of 21 competitors, junior
Sam Sheldon (Tully, N.Y./Tully), who took fifth in the 800-meter run (2:04.55), and sophomore
Peter McQuade (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach), who tallied fifth in the 3,00-meter steeplechase (12:15.43).
The members of the 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore
Cael O'Brien (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Motill, O'Neil, and Musgrove collected second with a time of 46.02, while the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman
Matthew Weller (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), freshman
Steven Heinbaugh (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield), Grissinger, and Cwiklinski gathered a third-place showing (3:41.53).
On the field, Heinbaugh finished second (11-3 ¾) and freshman
Thaddeus Karaman (Sherburne, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) notched fifth (10-10), respectively in the pole vault. Junior
Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School [Conn.]) and Palazzolo collected third (21-0 ¾) and fifth (20-1), respectively, in the long jump. Senior
Mike Corteste (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) registered fourth in the hammer throw, tossing 119-6.
