Multiple Blue Jays performed strongly in their first full squad meet of 2022. Blue Jay women won eight events at the meet at Susquehanna University.
Meet Winners
- Blue Jay freshman Lauren Phillips won both the 60m preliminary and final race, continuing her impressive freshman season. Phillips posted the fastest time among 33 competitors in the prelims, qualifying for the final with a time of 8.08. She improved by a tenth of a second in the final, winning the event with a time of 8.07, putting her just outside the top 50 nationally.
- In an event with 21 competitors, Sara Stephenson came out in front of the 800m run, finishing in 2:25.00. Her time is presently good for 21st in Division III, giving her a good spot to build off of in pursuit of an NCAA qualification.
- Sydney Friedel won the mile for the Blue Jays, defeating a group of her teammates with a time of 5:18.11, winning the event by more than five seconds. Friedel's time has her currently qualified for NCAA's with the 16th-fastest time thus far.
- Annie Gutierrez continues her takeover of the Johns Hopkins record books, adding another time to the top-five in the 60m hurdles. Gutierrez broke the school record earlier this year with a time of 8.88 and today she posted the second and third-fastest times in history, running an 8.94 in prelims and an 8.92 in the final to earn the win. She currently sits third nationally with the 8.88 time.
- Kaitlin Bonney, Anna Zaeske, Dana Andrews and Phillips combined to win the 4x200 for the Blue Jays with a time of 1:48.62. The time is the seventh-fastest recorded 4x200 time in the last decade-plus for Hopkins. The quartet also combined to win the 4x400 as well, posting a time of 4:10.92.
- Dominating the relays for the event, Hopkins won the Distance Medley Relay as well. Stephenson, Grace Massillon, Miranda Jimenez and Alex Ross combined to finish in 12:40.52 to win the event by more than 30 seconds. This is currently the fastest recorded DMR mark in Division III so far this season.
- Gutierrez earned another event victory in the pole vault. The graduate posted a vault of 3.50m to win the event as the Jays posted the top four marks in the event.
Other Key Performers
- Molly Kuzma finished second in the Mile with a time of 5:23.62. The mark puts her in 27th nationally among DIII athletes.
- Cassidy Brown (3.35m), Taryn Silvernale (3.20m) & Miayunique South (3.20m) placed second, third and fourth in the pole vault, placing them all in the top-42 nationally.
