SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Swarthmore College Men's Soccer team fell in the Centennial Conference opener against Dickinson 4-0 on Saturday night at Clothier Field Stadium.

The visitors jumped out to an early lead when forward Kevin Gilbert thumped in a cross in the eighth minute. Swarthmore never seemed to get going in the first half, and just 12 minutes later the Garnet were in a two-goal hole following a header off a corner kick.

Despite the struggles in the first half, the Garnet appeared to bounce back at the start of the second. Swarthmore created more chances, drove down the left several times, and earned more corner kicks in the second half. The Garnet recorded four corners to Dickinson's three in the match. The dagger came in the 67th minute when poor marking allowed McGovern to slip in for a flicked-on header by Gilbert, and Swarthmore goalkeeper Oliver Steinglass was helpless to respond from close range. Against the run of play, Dickinson were able to effectively finish off the hosts.

Both teams used the opportunity to get fresh legs into the match, and 10 minutes later Gilbert got his second to complete the scoring for the night. Swarthmore fell to 0-1 in the Centennial, and 5-1-1 overall.

The Garnet face non-conference Lycoming College next Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Clothier Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
