SWARTHMORE, Pa.—In the final home meet of the 2016-17 season, Swarthmore College Men's Swimming warded off the visiting Dickinson College Red Devils 113-92. The Garnet won both relays on Saturday plus had four individual first place finishes.
The Garnet improved to 7-1 overall in dual meets this year and 5-1 in conference meets, second-best in the conference regular season.
Swarthmore won the opening relay, the 400-yard medley, with Liam Fitzstevens, Alejandro Hernandez, Andrew Steele and Jeffrey Tse recording a time of 3:31.09, and capped off the meet with the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.85), with Andrew Steele, David Ranshous, Hernandez and Charles Yang doing the honors. The Garnet also took third in both of those races.
A clean sweep of the 200 breaststroke by Dickinson in the penultimate event brought the visitors within striking distance. Swarthmore held onto a 100-88 lead going into the final event, but the first- and third-place finishes (13 total points) protected the Garnet lead.
Fitzstevens, one of seven Garnet seniors honored prior to the game, recorded a personal best of 48.55 while winning the 100 free.
Swarthmore won the 50 free as well, with Charles Yang dashing to a time of 22.18. In the next event, the 200 IM, Jeffrey Tse swam to first place in 1:58.97. Tse would later win the 200 back by just under half a second (2:00.38) for Swarthmore's final individual win.
Prior to Saturday's meet, the Garnet honored seven seniors, Lincoln Harris, Stephen Sekula, Andrew Steele, David Ranshous, Gus Marty, Liam Fitzstevens and Thomas McGovern.
The Garnet's regular season wraps up with the Franklin & Marshall Invite on Saturday.
