BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior
Matt Robinson (Taneytown, Md./Pinkerton Academy [N.H.]) placed 47th out of 283 runners, leading the Gettysburg College men's cross country team to a 12th-place finish among 36 schools in the "White" race of the Paul Short Run on Friday at Lehigh University.
The Bullets employed an outstanding team effort, as its top-five runners finished just 31 second apart.
Division II Southern Connecticut State won the team title with 134 points while Swarthmore (150), Cortland (203), Franklin Pierce (204), and Stockton (222) rounded out the top-five.
Six of Gettysburg's seven competitors finished the 8,000-meter course with a personal record (PR), including Robinson, who clocked a 27:01. Junior
Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and sophomore
Sam Sheldon (Tully, N.Y./Tully) placed 58th and 59th in PRs of 27:09 and 27:12, respectively, while junior
Mike Miller (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) was close behind, taking 62nd in 27:17. Completing the team score was freshman
Connor Berson (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon), who took 85th in a PR of 27:32.
Finishing as displacers were freshmen
Dylan McKeever (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East) and
Owen Crosby (Wilmington, Del./Newark Charter), who placed 102nd and 124th in PRs of 27:48 and 28:11, respectively.
Alex Robbins of Wentworth won the race in 25:39.
The Bullets take a week off from competition before returning to action on Oct. 14 with the 28th annual Gettysburg Invitational.
