Johns Hopkins Rallies to Defeat Dickinson, 67-64

The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins-67, Dickinson-64
• Records: JHU (11-5, 8-1 CC) • DC (7-9, 5-4 CC)
• Location: Carlisle, PA • Kline Center
• The Short Story: Senior Michael Gardner hit a three-pointer from the top of the key with 31.6 seconds to give the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team a come-from-behind 67-64 win at Dickinson Wednesday night.

How it Happened
• Trailing by eight with 5:05 to play after a three-point play by Bryce Allen, sophomore Joey Kern converted a pair of free throws to spark a 13-2 run over the final five minutes. After a Joey Fitzpatrick bucket, junior Harry O'Neil scored six straight points, including a reverse layup to put Hopkins on top 64-62 with 1:28 to go.
• Elijah Wright knotted the score for the third time when he hit two free throws at the 1:02-mark. Gardner then drained his go-ahead shot as the shot clock expired and with a defender in his face. The Red Devils got a pair of shots in the final 15 seconds, but neither hit the mark.
• The teams traded baskets to start the game and were tied at seven just four minutes in. Allen then hit a three from the corner to spark a quick 8-0 Red Devils' run. Adam Drummond then drained a jumper, followed by a three from Mike Hinckley and the home team led 15-7.
• Senior Noah Ralby scored off the drive to the basket to kick-start a 5-2 run for the Blue Jays that trimmed the deficit to just three with 11:13 to go in the half. The teams swapped runs over the ensuing six and a half minutes and Dickinson led 25-19 after a Braeden Johnson layup.
• Jack Tierney answered on the other end with a conventional three-point play, igniting a 10-0 run that saw the Red Devils' lead balloon to 16 at the 2:32-mark. The teams traded buckets over the remainder of the half and Dickinson took a 39-24 lead into the break.
• Hopkins was firing on all cylinders to start the second half, as the Blue Jays outscored the Red Devils, 20-4, in the opening five and a half minutes. Kern got things going with eight straight points, including a pair of threes, to kick-start the run. Freshman Tom Quarry and Kern then capped the run with consecutive triples to stake the Blue Jays to a 44-43 lead.
• The lead was short-lived however as an Allen free throw at the 13:29-mark tied the game and started an 8-0 run for Dickinson. Trailing 51-44 with 11:03 to play, Johnson hit a triple to slice the deficit to four, but Allen answered with one of his own on the other end. A Ralby bucket in the paint and a pair of Quarry free throws pulled the Blue Jays within three just two minutes later. Dickinson once again answered, using a quick 8-3 spurt to go up 62-54 on Allen's three-point play.
